Challenge
When I started university, I noticed many students struggled with social confidence. Public speaking, networking, and small talk can cause anxiety yet these skills are essential for success in school, careers, and relationships. In my first year, there wasn't a space for students to practice these skills without fear of judgment.
Solution
In 2023, I founded Speak, a student-led nonprofit dedicated to helping young people build real-world communication skills. We designed programs that are approachable, practical, and community-driven. Events like networking for beginners, mock interview nights, and pitch competitions creating opportunities for students to practice communication in both professional and casual settings.
Impact
700+ followers engaged across campus at Western University
15+ events hosted, from skill-building workshops to socials
200,000+ online views through educational and relatable content
Sponsorships from Loblaw, Ivey, Montana's and local businesses
Vision
Speak is scaling into a network of schools across Canada and the U.S., addressing rising social anxiety and disconnection among young adults. Our mission is to help students express themselves authentically, build confidence, and strengthen their ability to connect with others; skills that last far beyond graduation.
